Volunteer at Odyssey

Volunteering with Odyssey Collaborative Trust is a meaningful way to support children, families and communities across Derby City. Our Trustees and Governors play a vital role in ensuring our schools are well led, inclusive and focused on giving every pupil the best possible education.

We are keen to hear from people from a wide range of backgrounds and experiences. You do not need to work in education. What matters is a commitment to public service, a willingness to learn and a belief in the importance of education for young people.

Becoming a Member, Trustee, or Local Governor

There are opportunities to volunteer at each level of the Trust’s governance.

Members are the guardians of governance across the Trust. They meet two or three times a year, appoint Trustees and receive significant documents such as the annual accounts.

Trustees provide strategic leadership and oversight for the Trust as a whole. They meet around a dozen times a year, help set the long term direction, ensure strong and ethical governance and hold leaders to account for educational performance and financial sustainability. Trustees use their skills and experience to help shape the future of education for children across Derby City.

Governors focus on one particular school , supporting and challenging school leaders while keeping pupils and the local community at the heart of decisions. They help ensure each school remains true to its character, values and community, while striving for high standards and continuous improvement. They meet about six times a year and visit the school they govern in.

Strong governance makes a real difference. By volunteering as a Trustee or Governor, you are giving valuable time and expertise to support children’s learning, strengthen communities and contribute positively to the city we serve.
